La Semeuse et SHLMR

La Semeuse is a department in the Art School of Reunion island for helping new graduates gain real world professional skills, SHLMR is a social housing organization in Reunion Island.
La Semeuse and SHLMR together made an open call for a painting mural mural in Le Port, (Reunion Island).

This mural made in collaboration with the inhabitants of the neighborhood highlight the features of Reunion Island architecture.

The urban landscape of Reunion Island changed considerably from the 1970s by implanting more multi-level buildings, these buildings are more commonly known as “concrete cities”.

The idea of this project was for me to reinvest the graphic language of Creole houses on the facades of social housing.

Progress of the project:
— Harvesting of a graphic vocabulary drawn from the architectural heritage of Reunion and in particular Creole houses.
— Proposal of composition workshops based on the graphic forms collected with the inhabitants.

The mural was thought of in a modular way. This gave participants the opportunity to see their composition integrated into the mural as well as extending to the facades of their home.
— Realization of the mural (about 2 weeks of work)
